SASI Talent Search identifies athletes that have the potential to represent Australia in Olympic and Paralympic sports!
About this Event

Could you be a world class athlete?

The SASI Talent Search program identifies school aged students that have the potential to represent Australia in Olympic and Paralympic sports.

Athletes’ physical, anthropometrical and physiological characteristics are tested, in order to identify whether they have the capacity to become Australia’s next sporting champion. The tests conducted range from generic fitness testing, to sport specific tests across sports that we work with. As a result, we often identify athletes that could excel in a sport that they have never tried before.

In 2024 we are expanding our testing to find SA's most talented athletes! See below for what suits you best:

  • Ages 8-12 testing available for diving (please note this testing will only take 60 minutes)
  • Ages 13-17 testing available for cycling, rowing, kayaking, beach volleyball, shooting, and archery
  • Ages 18-19 testing available for rowing

Our aim is to increase the number of South Australians achieving success on the world stage. Registrations are open now, start your Olympic journey with SASI 2032 Talent Search!

Stage 1 - Talent Search

Athletes take part in a series of generic fitness tests at Talent Search sessions. The testing includes 20m sprint, vertical jump height, beep test, height, weight and arm span.

All students who participate in generic fitness testing will receive their own personal Sportmatch report, matching them with their top five sports based on their testing results.

Students who participate in testing will be able to see how their results compare with past SASI Talent Search athletes who have gone onto the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Stage 2 - Talent Verification

All Talent Search testing results are reviewed by SASI coaches and those who have performed best will be invited to a talent verification testing opportunity in their recommended sport.

Stage 3 - Talent Development

If athletes are successful in the talent verification stage, they will then be invited to join a talent identification (TID) development program delivered by the relevant state sporting organisation. The program introduces athletes to their sport by providing them with specialised coaching and sport science support to nurture the athlete and fast-track development.

Stage 4 – State Development Squads

Following time in the TID program and after performances at benchmark events, athletes will transition into a sport’s high-performance pathway programs where they will commence their athlete journey to becoming a nationally categorised athlete.

Stage 5 – SASI Athlete

If athletes meet stringent selection criteria, they will become a SASI athlete which gives them access to all of SASI’s high-performance services including movement science, athlete wellbeing, nutrition and strength and conditioning. SASI’s team of support staff have a wide range of expertise will help athletes take their performance to the highest level, competing at national and international events including National Championships, World Championships, and Commonwealth, Olympic and Paralympic Games.
