Learn a new skill and shift into a mentality of "make-thrift-mend" as part of our Winter Workshop Series at Gemini Handmade! Bring 1-3 garments and learn to patch your clothing using the Sashiko stitching method.Elyse Marie Welcher of Littlewings Designs will lead this class, where you will learn to patch garments using the traditional Sashiko patching method. A form of Japanese embroidery, sashiko stitch patching is a sturdy and beautiful way to revitalize favorite garments.
This class will be hosted at the shop at 963 Cherry St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506.
Cost per participant is $50. The class is capped at 6 students and will take place at the large workshop table, where we sit on shop stools. Please bring 1-3 garments you would like to patch! Your workshop fee includes:
-Sashiko thread to stitch up to three patches
-selection of scrap fabrics to choose from for patching
-3 needles for future patching
-disappearing ink pen for marking stitch patterns
-small instructional zine for future reference
-2 hours of instructional time at the Gemini Handmade space
