Sashiko is a Japanese stitching technique that was historically used to mend, reinforce, and embellish garments. Traditionally it was often a simple running stitch using white thread on indigo-dyed fabric. Over time, sashiko has evolved into a decorative stitching style using colored threads and a variety of geometric patterns. This is a beginner friendly class and all supplies needed in class will be provided. This class is best suited for participants 16 and older. *This class is taught with respect to the history and culture of Japan, where sashiko originated. In order to show appreciation of the history and culture of sashiko, in class we will use sashiko thread, patterns, and fabric sourced from Japanese artisans and producers whenever possible.
