About this Event
This is a one-day workshop.
Julie Harvey, maker for Kaffe Fassett's Studio and experienced tutor, will start the day delivering an introduction to Sashiko (meaning 'little stabs'), a form of Japanese hand embroidery that originated as a practical and decorative way to reinforce and repair fabric.
During the workshop Julie will teach you the tools and techniques of Sashiko. You will practice how to transfer patterns onto fabric and sew the various techniques on a sample.
Using your new skills, you will then transfer a chosen design which you will stitch and make into a little table mat or wall hanging framed with Kaffe Fassett fabrics of your choice.
Sashiko is a relaxing and portable method of stitching that adds design elements to fabrics, garments and quilts, and it is beautiful when partnered with applique work.
All attendees will have free entry to view an exhibition of Kaffe Fassett's Quilts which are on loan from his private collection, alongside "The Tree of Life Quilt" by Julie Harvey & Ilaria Padovani, which was commissioned by the University of Bristol.
A kit with all the materials is provided.
Please bring a hand sewing kit including scissors, a 30cm ruler and if you have one, a small cutting mat.
Light lunch is included with this workshop.
If a workshop is cancelled for any reason by the organisers, the participants will receive a refund minus the Eventbrite fees.
