About Kelly Hunt
The daughter of an opera singer and a saxophonist, Hunt was raised in Memphis, TN amidst a motley mélange of musical influences ranging from Rachmaninov to Joni Mitchell to Mississippi John Hurt. She grew up singing in choirs, poring over poetry books, and writing her own music as a matter of course, first on piano then 5-string banjo. After being introduced to the banjo in college while studying French and visual arts, Hunt began to develop her own improvised style of playing, combining old-time picking styles with the percussive origins of the instrument. After college, Hunt embarked on a rambling path through career pursuits in farming, French breadmaking, and visual arts, ultimately landing in Kansas City, where she would go on to write and record her debut album, Even the Sparrow.
About Sara Jean Stevens:
Sara Jean Stevens and the Swamp Angels are an Americana band based out of northern Illinois. Fronted by the talented singer-songwriter Sara Jean Stevens, the band's music is a unique blend of strong melodies and roadhouse energy.
Sara Jean, classically trained on vocals and piano, has spent her life immersed in music. In her 20s and 30s, she toured the world playing with various bands before deciding to step into the spotlight with her own music in her 40s. Whether playing solo, or backed by the Swamp Angels, a group of seasoned musicians, Sara Jean brings her haunting lyrics and soaring vocals to life on stage.
In February, Sara Jean released her EP titled 'Midnight Tears' recorded at Dial Back Sound in Mississippi. The EP features the talents of Matt Patton from the Drive-By Truckers on bass, adding an extra layer of depth to the band's already captivating sound.
With influences ranging from Emmylou Harris and Joni Mitchell to Mazzy Star, Sara Jean Stevens is carving out her own unique place in the Americana music scene. Keep an eye out for this talented group as they continue to make their mark on the music world.
