About this Event

SAPOL Road Safety Centre Safer Journeys Together - Leaner Driver and Qualified Supervising Driver Awareness Road Safety Session

Designed as a two-part package (one for learner drivers and one for parents/guardians to attend together) the Safer Journeys Together – learner driver and qualified supervising driver awareness road safety session is delivered at SAPOL’s Road Safety Centre simultaneously and offers road safety information to both groups.

Obtaining a licence is a very exciting time for young drivers and it is important that they are aware of licence conditions and safe driving practices. Parents/guardians need to be aware of the changes to road rules and their responsibilities when acting as a qualified supervising driver.

Holly Scott has been announced as SAPOL’s first Road Safety Ambassador which will see her work closely with SAPOL’s Road Safety Centre to share her story. Her powerful road safety message will be used to highlight the ongoing trauma suffered by those involved in a serious crash. During the session, participants will view ‘Driven - the story of Holly Scott’. Holly Scott will speak to the learner drivers during the session.

For learner drivers Safer journeys together - Learner driver road safety session

This session discusses the graduated licencing scheme and the conditions associated with a learner’s permit and provisional licence. Crash survivor Holly Scott talks to participants about her crash and recovery.

Topics include:

• graduated licencing scheme

• the Fatal Five causes of road trauma on South Australian roads

• risk-taking behaviour

• peer group pressure

• passenger safety

• the consequences of making poor choices on the road.

For parents/guardians Safer journeys together - Qualified supervising driver road safety session

This session provides information to parents / guardians teaching learner drivers on the changes to the road rules and encourages parents / guardians to act as good road safety role models. The session provides parents / guardians with information regarding:

• Australian Road Rules

• leaner permit conditions

• qualified supervising driver conditions

• the Fatal Five causes of road trauma on South Australian roads

• the importance of ANCAP safety ratings on vehicles

• Personal Property Securities Register

• reporting to police.

The SA Police Road Safety Centre is a leader in road safety education, playing a vital role in reducing road trauma through enhancing the awareness, knowledge and skills of all road users through lifelong learning. Despite steady falls in the lives lost on South Australian roads over the past decade, young drivers continue to be over-represented in road trauma statistics.

Road Safety Centre Location

The Road Safety Centre is located in the south-western corner of the Thebarton Police Barracks.

All vehicles coming to the Road Safety Centre must enter Bonython Park via either of the two entrances shown. Follow the roadway to the main car park and park in there. It is only a short walk to the entrance gate of the Centre, as shown.
