About this Event

SA Police Road Safety Centre School Holiday Program 5-8 years

SA Police is once again offering a free road safety school holiday program for primary school aged children during the September school holidays.

While South Australian children have the opportunity to visit the Road Safety Centre as part of a school or community excursion, not all schools participate in this program. The free holiday program provides an additional opportunity for children to gain vital road safety education from a police officer.

Participants in the two-hour program will have a classroom session, followed by a practical session on pedestrian and cycle safety on the mock roadway to put their new knowledge into practice.

All equipment is supplied and the Road Safety Centre has a range of bicycles to cater for all riders abilities.

Six sessions, covering two age groups, are being offered at Thebarton Police Barracks, Port Road, Adelaide from 10.00 am to midday.

Parents/guardians are not permitted to stay during the classroom session conducted at the Road Safety Centre. Parents/guardians are welcome to watch their child ride on the mock roadway from outside the fenced area.

In 2020 the SA Police Road Safety Centre school holiday program was recognised by the Australian Road Safety Foundation as the national award winner in the category of State Government initiatives at the annual Australian Road Safety Awards.

Please note there is a COVID Safe Plan for this event.

Road Safety Centre Location

The Road Safety Centre is located in the south-western corner of the Thebarton Police Barracks. The mock roadway is located on land belonging to City of Adelaide, in the south-western corner of Bonython Park. It is fenced from the main area of Bonython Park, providing a degree of security for participants.

All vehicles coming to the Road Safety Centre must enter Bonython Park via either of the two entrances shown. Follow the roadway to the main car park and park in there. It is only a short walk to the entrance gate of the Centre, as shown.
