About this Event
Join us for a four day / three night photography weekend on beautiful Sapelo Island, Georgia.
Sapelo Island is a state protected barrier island that is only accessible by boat or ferry.
Sapelo Island, situated about sixty miles south of Savannah, lies in the center of coastal Georgia’s well-defined chain of barrier islands. The 16,500-acre island is Georgia’s fourth largest and, excepting the 434-acre African American community of Hog Hammock, is entirely state owned and managed.
For the history of Sapelo Island see: https://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/articles/geography-environment/sapelo-island/
Your fee will include ferry transportation to the island, lodging, all food cooked and prepared by our excellent on-island farm to table professional chef, and tours by SUV to different parts of the island. You are also free to walk and explore the area of the island near the lodging.
Lodging will be in the 'Eagle's Nest', which is a rental cabin on the island. One bedroom has four twin beds (semi-private), and another room has a King bed (private). In the den, we plan to use some air mattresses (non-private).
We will discuss and plan our agenda on the first night of our arrival. Photography opportunities include sunrises or sunsets overlooking one of the beach areas, milky way/astro photography overlooking one of the beach areas or at the Sapelo lighthouse, the Sapelo lighthouse during the day, an eagle nest which might be active, the north end duck ponds for birding, the tabby ruins at the Chocolate plantation, and more. While this is not necessarily a photography training week, if you need help with your camera settings, I'll be happy to assist in any way that I can.
It is higly recommended to buy Travel Insurance, such as that available at Allianz Travel (allianztravelinsurance.com) in case you need to make a change of plans within the three week period before the event when refunds are not allowed.
