Train-based walkLeader: Mary, joining train at Stockport

Distance: 11.3km / 7.0mi
Ascent: 50m / 164ft
Type: circular
A lovely linear walk, taking us through the greenbelt land in some of the outlying villages and suburbs of the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport. The walk will be undertaken at a steady pace. This route is mainly on good paths, although it can be slightly uneven (undulating) and muddy in sections. The route will take us past several historical/Graded listed halls in Stockport.
There will be no opportunity to purchase food/water at the walk start. Please ensure that you bring with you enough food and water to sustain you for the duration of the walk.
There are a couple of bail out options to cut the journey short as the route goes via roads with bus stops that you can catch buses back to Stockport town centre (£2 fare), e.g., due to bad weather or if you just don’t want to do the full length of the walk.
Please wear suitable walking footwear as some of the route is uneven and will be muddy in sections (NO sandals or crocs).
You are encouraged to wear something festive, e.g. a Santa hat/Christmas outfit, tinsel, holly etc! Maybe not a Christmas jumper, as you may become quite warm wearing it if the weather is quite mild on the day.
Meet Point: Near the ticket barriers, or on the platform, at Piccadilly station. Alternatively, meet the group on the train, or at the Walk Start at Bramhall station.
