Event Description

Celebrate the largest day of international stewardship by joining Texas Folklife at the Austin School of Film's Motion Media Arts Center for a screening of our “Santa Muerte: A Folk Saint in Texas” Documentary. Folklorist and University of Texas Associate Professor of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies, Dr. Rachel González-Martin will discuss folk saints, resistive social narratives, and where the Santa Muerte fits in. There will be drinks generously provided by Austin Beerworks and other light refreshments.


Tickets

Your entry ticket includes two free raffle tickets for a special gift basket (additional raffle tickets will be available to purchase at the event) as well as a complimentary drinks wristband. (Must be 21+ and present at the drawing to win).

  • $15 for General Admission
  • $10 for Texas Folklife Members (please enter the code you received by email)
  • $5 for those with student/military ID.
  • All tickets will be $15 at the door

About Dr. Rachel González-Martin

Rachel González-Martín is a folklorist and associate professor of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies at UT Austin. She teaches courses on supernatural Legends, Latinx Spirituality, and other forms of Latinx cultural productions. She is currently working on a new book project on the monstrous feminine in the Latinx folklore.
