Come join us for an exciting book signing event with the talented author D. Daye Hunter at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA). Get your copy of her book Seeds: Stories of Afro-Indigenous Resilience signed and enjoy an afternoon surrounded by fellow book enthusiasts. Don't miss this opportunity to meet the author in person and even grab a selfie or two! See you there!
Dominique Daye Hunter will be giving a special reading from her book Seeds: Stories of Afro-Indigenous Resilience featuring themes of planting, seed saving, food sovereignty, language, and hope.
Mašte (spring) is a time to express gratitude for surviving the previous winter, to remember those we've lost, and to plant the seeds for a stronger future.
Reading from the first quarter of her book, listeners will follow the story of Dominique's Afro-Yesáh familial and personal experiences from the bare branches and dormant state of historical trauma to a season of growth.
The author will dive into the use of Yesa:sahį (an eastern Siouan language) in her poems and how reviving their long-dormant language, along with traditional gardening practices, is empowering Yesáh community members to reconnect to one another, to heal, to bloom.
