✨Ryan Thomison and The Sapphire Yoga Collective Description ✨
Hello my name is Ryann. I first approached yoga from the lens of recovery for the physical body during my professional volleyball career, but once I began practicing, I was astonished by the mindfulness that I was able to cultivate through my own practice. I received my 200 Hour YTT training from the Ignite your Heart Yoga Academy. My classes are a fusion between ahimsa, which is hindu for non-harming, and tapas, which in sanskrit translates to building heat or self-discipline. Tapas to me emphasizes the importance of pushing your edge just enough to experience growth. I believe that without challenge there is no change, and in order to grow there are times we must exert some bit of self discipline through challenging asanas that test our mental and physical abilities. Additionally, I always leave room for the practice of ahimsa throughout each of my classes because it is so important to me that students listen to their body and show up on their mat as a way to reconnect, as opposed to harm or force themselves into shapes. I like to tell people if all they did was show up and take a child's pose, they could not be more in the yoga. My style is all about marrying both ahimsa and tapas together, as well as holding space for students to dive deeper into themselves using the vehicle of their breath. Come experience movement as medicine with me ?
Sapphire Yoga Collective is dedicated to offering accessible, donation-based yoga practices for people of all bodies, levels, and queer identities in Santa Cruz, CA. Our yoga classes are radical containers for celebrating ourselves, welcoming pleasure and rest, and co-regulating with other queer folk. We teach through a trauma-sensitive, liberatory lens, and we believe that nourishing our own inner gardens has the potential to ripple out, resourcing us for community care and activism. The principles of yogic philosophy bring us in alignment with the resources required for queer liberation, anti-racism, class consciousness, and ultimately, the spread of compassion for all.

Agreements to Support this Intentional Gathering Space
We will have supportive agreements for folks to read and follow with regard to how to interact if you want to dance and connect with others.
These guidelines are meant to support all bodies in feeling like they have access to Voice and Choice.
Here are the agreements and they will be at the registration table as well:
Self:
I agree, to the best of my ability, to tune into myself and to track my Yes in interactions in this space and to advocate for myself and to make shifts when I need to, to stay in my Yes.
I agree, to the best of my ability, to pause and take some space when I am no longer clear about where my Yes is.
When I am unable to make those shifts I agree to track myself in that process and to learn and grow in my ability to be resilient and to courageously advocate for myself.
I am aware that there are Tenders to support me, and I will consider getting support from them if I am feeling like I need that support.

Each Other:
I agree, to the best of my ability, to attune to those I’m dancing with and sharing space with and to value them being in their Yes.
In that attunement I will be aware of dynamics that might affect the other dancers’ Voice and Choice in interactions with me including the possibility of there being gender and ethnicity dynamics, differences in experience level, age differences, or the possibility of someone being new to the community.
I agree to practice my resilience around receiving a No.
I agree to consider checking in if I’m sensing that someone may not be a Yes to an interaction.
I agree, to the best of my ability, to track the story I’m making up about the dance I’m having with someone and to be aware that the stronger that story is the less likely it is that I am attuning to my dance partner’s actual experience.
I agree to leave dances on the dance floor and to not expect another dance, nor a hug goodbye, nor a phone number nor anything else.
Space:
I agree to value inclusivity, and community building in this space and to have awareness of how my movements affect the space.
I understand that this is a sober space, and I agree to honor that.
I agree to be aware of my impact on the space and those around me and to exercise discernment with regard to how intimately I engage with my dance partners.
I understand that there are Angels who will be tending the space. I understand that in the interest of a harmonious dance floor experience they might check in with me at some point, and I agree to cooperate and collaborate with them to the best of my ability. If something comes up for me that is causing an impact on the space and the Angels feel like it would be better supported outside of the dance floor space I agree to move it off the dance floor space into a more private area.
