✨Description of Contact-Fusion: Exploring Self, Other, & the Collective ✨
We’ll build a foundation together, learning how to stay connected to the self, other, and the collective, as it’s easy to lose ourselves in being able to hold each of these connections at the same time. We will also delve into some of the fundamentals of Contact Improv and Fusion, with a focus on attunement and slowing down.
Then we’ll traverse the intersection of Contact Improv and Fusion dance, which can actually feel fluid and not clunky like some folx experience when trying to merge the two. So even if you’re new to either form of dance, you’ll be able to explore where these two different forms of dance meet.
We will also discover the possibilities of what a 4-person partner dance can feel like through the structure and form of Fusion, as well as the fluidity of Contact Improv.
This workshop is intended to set the tone and container for the rest of the event, starting to build connections with others and learning some fundamentals for those new to any of these dance forms.

✨Maya Light Bio ✨
Maya Light loves to dive into the depths of connection and expression through the unique and captivating conversation that is awakened on the dance floor. She plays as a director of the human experience, offering countless pathways and possibilities of movement through the range of diverse music she shares.
Drawn to deliciously wompy, heart-bass world beats, she encourages a rich exploration with a dynamically nourishing and inspiring journey of sound.
Maya Light is deeply enamored with the realm of creative expression, supporting others to access and explore the full range of this human experience. As an international DJ, she has adeptly honed the craft of weaving soundscapes for over 8 years, captivated by the tangible conversation she experienced on the dance floor.
She then delved into the art of curating intimate spaces, wholeheartedly embracing the transformative power of group fields as catalysts for unraveling and growth.
She also studied embodied anatomy at the School of Body Mind Centering, where she delved into a yin form of body work emphasizing safety and deep co-regulation, enriching her understanding of the interconnectedness of mind and body. Creating spaces to unlock and seamlessly integrate new pathways is her biggest passion.

Agreements to Support this Intentional Gathering Space
We will have supportive agreements for folks to read and follow with regard to how to interact if you want to dance and connect with others.
These guidelines are meant to support all bodies in feeling like they have access to Voice and Choice.
Here are the agreements and they will be at the registration table as well:
Self:
I agree, to the best of my ability, to tune into myself and to track my Yes in interactions in this space and to advocate for myself and to make shifts when I need to, to stay in my Yes.
I agree, to the best of my ability, to pause and take some space when I am no longer clear about where my Yes is.
When I am unable to make those shifts I agree to track myself in that process and to learn and grow in my ability to be resilient and to courageously advocate for myself.
I am aware that there are Tenders to support me, and I will consider getting support from them if I am feeling like I need that support.

Each Other:
I agree, to the best of my ability, to attune to those I’m dancing with and sharing space with and to value them being in their Yes.
In that attunement I will be aware of dynamics that might affect the other dancers’ Voice and Choice in interactions with me including the possibility of there being gender and ethnicity dynamics, differences in experience level, age differences, or the possibility of someone being new to the community.
I agree to practice my resilience around receiving a No.
I agree to consider checking in if I’m sensing that someone may not be a Yes to an interaction.
I agree, to the best of my ability, to track the story I’m making up about the dance I’m having with someone and to be aware that the stronger that story is the less likely it is that I am attuning to my dance partner’s actual experience.
I agree to leave dances on the dance floor and to not expect another dance, nor a hug goodbye, nor a phone number nor anything else.
Space:
I agree to value inclusivity, and community building in this space and to have awareness of how my movements affect the space.
I understand that this is a sober space, and I agree to honor that.
I agree to be aware of my impact on the space and those around me and to exercise discernment with regard to how intimately I engage with my dance partners.
I understand that there are Angels who will be tending the space. I understand that in the interest of a harmonious dance floor experience they might check in with me at some point, and I agree to cooperate and collaborate with them to the best of my ability. If something comes up for me that is causing an impact on the space and the Angels feel like it would be better supported outside of the dance floor space I agree to move it off the dance floor space into a more private area.
