Saïd Business School is delighted to welcome Professor Daron Acemoglu as the 2024 Sanjaya Lall Visiting Professor.

The Sanjaya Lall Visiting Professorship at the University of Oxford was created to honor the memory and academic legacy of Professor Sanjaya Lall (1940 - 2005). The distinguished scholarship scheme has run for over a decade, inviting some of the most prestigious international Economists to the University of Oxford.

Professor Daron Acemoglu is a world-renowned economist whose research focuses on political economy, economic development, and the effects of institutions on growth. He is the co-author of the New York Times bestseller "Why Nations Fail: The Origins of Power, Prosperity, and Poverty."

Join us for this exciting opportunity to hear from a leading scholar in the field of economics.

About Professor Sanjaya Lall (1940 - 2005)

Sanjaya Lall was a development economist and Professor of Economics at the University of Oxford. Lall's research interests included the impact of foreign direct investment in developing countries, the economics of multi-national corporations, and the development of technological capability and industrial competitiveness in developing countries. One of the world's pre-eminent development economists, Lall was also one of the founding editors of the journal Oxford Development Studies and a senior economist at the World Bank (1965–68 and 1985–87).


This event has been organised by Oxford Saïd in partnership with the Sanjaya Lall Memorial Fund. As part of this visit, our Dean, Soumitra Dutta, will be hosting a Panel event, 'AI and the future of work'. For more information and to register please visit the registration page.
