PHIL GUNTER and HARB GILL bring the sounds of the exotic east to audiences around the world. Phil has played the 11-string fretless oud for more than 30 years. He has a Masters in Ethnomusicology from Monash University and a post-graduate degree in classical guitar from the VCA. It was while tracing the history of stringed instruments that Phil fell in love with the oud, which is a precursor to the lute and guitar. It has taken him around the world including to New York, Morocco, New Mexico, France, Turkey, Egypt and India. Harb Gill has played the harmonium for nearly 30 years, leading devotional chants with as many as 2500 voices, while also playing the traditional frame drum. Most recently, Phil and Harb performed at the 2024 Melaka Arts and Performance Festival in Malaysia, where their music transported audiences over sandy desert dunes and bustling souks to the very heart of the east.*****
