![Sandra Meigs: Beings](https://cdn2.stayhappening.com/thumbs/thumb67a3a0ddd28ae.jpg)
The inception of this work can be accredited to Sandra’s residency in Banff; one of the few places where the wild has no edges. The studio was surrounded by Lodgepole pines dusted in light snows. The burgeoning cold rested high in the mountains while the sun grazed the frosted fungi dangling from branches. Under which elk in search of mates would zigzag through the hoof-groomed trails in search of a simple love snorting out bubbles of warm longing.
Amongst all of the bright white and evergreen the Beings inside were different. Technically portraits but more akin to gnarled trees. One thoughtful step after another the vibrancy of their physical qualities engulfed the space in a provocative Chroma. Bringing the Beings alive was an oil and water dance of blaring denial and sincere inevitability. With this exchange lasting over a period of many weeks time brought many laconic yet resonant directives. The painterliness isolating each of them to their own corners of the world while their penetrating personalities wrap you up in their gestation of becoming.
With an undeniably gnarled charm and eyes vibrantly sly if you ask them they’ll tell you about the first time they opened their eyes: pale light ran sharp spears through the trees snow dusted Elk trod on through a maze of mess.
