Sandra Bouza (https://www.sandrabouza.com/), was born in Toronto but spent her childhood flitting back and forth between Canada and Spain. Like Amy Winehouse and Adele, Sandra’s absorbed a lot from listening to the greats from the golden age of R and B, but like them, she has emerged with a style that is all her own. You can hear echoes of Etta James and Carla Thomas in Bouza’s powerful and highly nuanced phrasing. Gifted with a masterful sense of poise and control, few singers can inhabit a vocal like Bouza does.
In 2019 Sandra won the Toronto Blues Talent search and came second in the city’s prestigious Soul Slam. Her 2018 EP ‘Three Years,’ her 2018 EP, and first album ‘Falling Away from Me,’ (2020), put everyone on notice that Sandra Bouza was an artist to watch. Everything came together for Sandra during an artist’s residence on Halls Island where she wrote most of the material for her 2023 album, ’A Sound in the Dark.’ The album has been extraordinarily well received, and along with her dynamic live performances helped Sandra earn a Maple Blues Award nomination for New Artist of the Year.
Everyone who’s heard her sing knows that Sandra’s always been a powerful vocalist and a compelling songwriter, but with ‘A Sound in the Dark’, she has truly found her own voice, and the promise of her earlier work has come to full fruition.
Jay Moonah, aka Broke Fuse (https://www.brokefuse.com/) is a one-man band from Guildwood and needs little introduction. Jay has been very active in the Canadian music scene for more than 30 years and is a founding member of Dinner and a Song and the Scarborough Uke Jam.
As Broke Fuse, Jay has five releases: 'The Underground’ (2015), ‘Broke Down + Blue’ (2017), ‘Why Should I Be Blue?’ (2020) and ‘Rocket Ride’ (2021) and an instrumental ‘Splashdown’ (2022). All were extremely well received, garnering stellar reviews, international airplay, chart-topping success on the Roots Music Report Canadian Top 50, and a series of award nominations, including a Maple Blues Award nomination in the New Artist category.
In addition to Broke Fuse, Jay Moonah performs regularly as a member of Mike McKenna’s Slidewinder Blues Band and Rockabilly Blue.
TICKETS: $60 for a two-course dinner and show (the $35 dinner portion of this payment includes the tax and tip on the food); available only at www.dinnerandasong.com. A limited number of show-only tickets are available at $30 each.
