About this Event
Today’s suddenly tumultuous world has spawned an unprecedentedly vast and varied array of economic sanctions. The incidence of sanctions seeking to interfere with international commercial relations has mounted markedly, and the ways sanctions seek to affect them have multiplied.
The claims of international commerce usually decided in international arbitration are, therefore, increasingly subjected to the intrusion of sanctions. Whilst this minefield engenders challenges for international arbitration, the unique circumstances of arbitration may offer vistas for international commerce better to contend with sanctions and influence their impact.
This conference will investigate the complex problem of the application of sanctions, and identify and assess their impact on the various actors in international arbitration - arbitration institutions, arbitrators, and the parties - across the stages of agreeing to arbitrate, the arbitration proceeding, and the enforcement of arbitral awards.
