About this Event
Join us on the trail, meet new friends and log miles as part of Nature Unplugged's 2024 Hike-A-Thon! Each hike is ranger-led in partnership with the County of San Diego's Park and Recreation.
Registration encouraged, no cost to participate.
SAN ELIJO LAGOON & ANNIE'S CANYON
The San Elijo Lagoon is one of San Diego’s largest wetlands. This 979-acre reserve is primarily a shallow-water estuary, formed where the Escondido and La Orilla Creeks meet the Pacific Ocean.
We'll hike a 4 mile loop around the lagoon, including a stop at the San Elijo Nature Center, over to Annie's Canyon Trail and back. The majority of the loop is considered easy to moderate and family friendly. The quarter-mile, moderate-to-strenuous Annie’s Canyon Trail through the slot canyon is optional!
Whether you opt-out of the Slot Canyon portion, or are waiting for the crowd to dwindle, be sure to stop by Nature Collective's table at the base of Annie's Canyon Trail. The Ambassadors will provide information and activities for the group to discover more about the habitats found near and around the coast and why these habitats are crucial to the many bird species that visit or call San Elijo Lagoon home.
Important Note: This event is a part of a month-long Hike-A-Thon! To participate in the Hike-A-Thon, please register here: https://charity.pledgeit.org/enu-hike-a-thon-2024
