About this Event
*The Iwakuni Old Road is over 370 years old, and was used for centuries by feudal lords, Samurai and local inhabitants. This historical road is where the families and vassals of the Iwakuni Lord came to Iwakuni from Shimane prefecture in 1600.
T he Old Road path is about 30 KM from Hongo town in Iwakuni city to Imazu-machi.
O ver the years, it has been maintained by both local and navy volunteers. In 2019, it was selected as one of the 100 historical roads in Japan by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
W e will hike through Japanese countryside in Iwakuni City and mountain path feeling the Japanese historical Culture with Local Guides, also this would help you to build Spiritual Readiness by walking in a mountain and contributing to maintain the path partially.

Hike & Maintenance Duration: Approximately 2 hours

0815: Meet at Chapel Bldg.1100
0830: Depart the Chapel
0900 : Matsuo Pass in Miwa town (Hike Starting Point)
0930 : Start Maintenance at Tada valley for 1.5 hours
1130: Fujikawa Elementary school
1200 : Back to the Base
**Transportation is provided for volunteers, and will depart from Bldg. 1100, Chaplain's Office.
*P OV is not allowed
* Please come in LONG SLEEVED SHIRT AND A LONG PANTS. HAT, GOOD WALKING SHOES, TOWEL, GLOVES AND WATER.
*LOAs available for volunteers
*E-4 and below must provide Supervisor’s email.
* Active Duty Members will receive priority.
