Sam's Corner, which happens every month or so, features piano wizard Sam Rudin in a variety of settings. He might be solo. More often, he will be with his trio, or with a special guest.
And he likes to try new things.
Often, that means an additional player or two being iinvited into the mix. But surely it can also happen that the SUBTRACTION of a player can shift the focus and create a new dynamic. And so Sam and bassist Daniel Fabricant decided to do a program of piano and bass duets and see where that leads.
Neither solo piano nor piano trio - both of which have plenty of precedent - this presentation will be exploring some relatively uncharted territory. (And yes there are some important piano/bass collaborations out there but for Sam and Daniel, this is a first). There will be plenty of jazz and blues, of course, and no shortage of recognizable tunes. It will all seem familiar... and yet... different. And it will definitely be fun!
Daniel is one of NorCal's best, most versatile, and most in-demand bassists. Playing both upright and electric, Daniel has a command of all relevant styles, but it's his unerring good taste that his fans point to.
Sam Rudin is, of course, the owner/manager of The Back Room. Years ago, he was known as a rip-roaring solo pianist, and a frequent opening act at the major rooms. He also played throughout the state with his band Hurricane Sam & the Hotshots.
Tickets are $20 general admission. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available here, or if the show is not sold out, you may purchase your tickets at the door before the show.
Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash or Venmo only at the door.
