Several months back, Sam's Corner featured a show in the classic piano trio format. In addition to the wide-ranging, genre-hopping piano wizardry of Sam Rudin, there was some wonderful chemistry between Jeremy Steinkoler, Sam's always on-point first choice drummer, and Daniel Fabricant, a bassist that Sam had previously seen but never before played with. The results were magical!
Maybe some of you saw Jeremy's Facebook entry in which he recounted the experience. The two of them met for the first time that evening. Sam threw at them his typical collection of bluesy jazz (balanced, as always with some jazzy blues) and augmented with pop, rock, and reggae flavors. The experience was so good that all three were eagerly awaiting their next opportunity to play together.
It took a while, but that opportunity is here tonight! Seriously, if you love this kind of music, and if you especially love to see great players bouncing off of each other, creating as they go, then this night is for you.
And not only that! ALSO appearing is special guest Yolandra Rhodes, a wonderful and very popular singer of jazz and soul music (and a true, old-school entertainer) who is quite familiar to Back Room audiences, having appeared here a dozen times with her own excellent band. Yolandra will be doing a short set of some of her favorite tunes, and it will be fascinating to see what she and this trio can produce.
Tickets are $22.50 in advance and $25 at the door. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available here, or if the show is not sold out, you may purchase your tickets at the door before the show.
Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash or Venmo only at the door.
