Acclaimed experimental folk artist John Francis Flynn takes the stage with songs that feel half-dreamed, half-haunted for the second night of music at Samhain Festival 25 at VISUAL.Known for his startling reimaginings of traditional music, Flynn unpicks familiar ballads and rebuilds them into something otherworldly – voices that drift like spectres, drones that rise like storm clouds and melodies that seem to flicker between past and present. His latest album, Look Over The Wall, See The Sky, conjures a sonic landscape that is unsettling, beautiful and deeply human, music that feels as at home in the shadows of Samhain as around a fire in the dead of night.
Opening the evening is enCÓRe, a dynamic Carlow-based ensemble of musicians united by their passion for performance and community. With spirited arrangements and infectious energy, they bring a brightness and vitality that sets the stage alight, offering the perfect balance of festivity before the darker, spellbinding sounds of Flynn.
Join us for a night where tradition bends, the veil between worlds thins and music takes on a ghostly, unforgettable power. Costumes are warmly encouraged (but not required). Whether cloaked in Halloween finery or simply ready to listen, you’ll be part of an evening where the night comes alive with haunting melodies and timeless tales.
