SAME BLUE RIDGE POST LUNCHEON PROGRAM

How to Take Advantage of the SBA Mentor-Protégé Program, Operate as a Mentor-Protégé Joint Venture or Prime-Sub Team, and Avoid Common Pitfalls (1 PDH)

This presentation will provide professional development to the SAME Community by providing guidance on the many advantages for architects, engineers, and contractors (A/E/C) firms and government agencies to apply to the SBA Mentor-Protege Program (MP), how to compete as a MP team, and how to form a MP Joint Venture to maximize flexibility and resources in performing federal contracts and subcontracts as a small business. This presentation will address a key option for members of the SAME Community to compete for, and win federal contracts and subcontracts set aside for small businesses.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. What is the SBA Mentor-Protégé Program, how do you apply, and what are the advantages of the program?
  2. How do you form a Mentor-Protégé Joint Venture and what are the pros and cons of using a Joint Ventrue to perform work?
  3. What must Mentor-Protégé Program members do to remain compliant while in the program?

Doug Hibshman

Doug is a partner at a law firm specializing in Federal Government Contracts, Construction, Tax Controversy, Litigation, Privacy & Data Security, Mergers & Acquisitions, White-Collar Defense, Health Law, and Architecture, Engineering & Design. Sean specializes in construction law and government contracts. He handles construction disputes, mechanics' liens, bond claims, and OSHA violations. Dana, a member of the Litigation Department, represents clients in commercial and federal government contract disputes. She supports the Construction and Federal Government Contracts & Procurement groups, focusing on contract analysis, risk assessment, compliance, internal investigations, subcontract agreements, joint venture agreements, and dispute resolution litigation at the Boards of Contract Appeals. Jung Hyoun "Jane" Han, a member of the Litigation Department, focuses on federal government contracts, including bid protests, size protests, Contract Disputes Act claims, and compliance. Formerly a judicial clerk at the EEOC and a summer associate at Fox Rothschild, she was also recently selected to participate in the 2024 SAME DC & NoVA Posts' Leadership and Mentoring Program. All tickets include in-person-only admission to the luncheon program, digital delivery of the program documents, digital delivery of a 1 HR Professional Development certificate (1 PDH) for registered attendees, and served lunch. Please note that not all jurisdictions or organizations accept PDH certificates for continuing education.

$ 25 - Government / Non-Profit / Fully Retired / Full-time Students

$ 45 - SAME Members (Any Post)

$ 50 - Non Members

$ 10 - surcharge for late or walk-in registrations (after regular sales end on Monday, March 25 at noon EST)

DRESS CODE

Gentlemen and Ladies should wear business casual attire. Short sleeved uniform or uniform not requiring coat or tie may be worn at the meeting when it is the prescribed uniform of the day by the respective military services. Business cards are welcome.
