The Salvation Army of Washoe County is celebrating the grand opening of its newest store at 650 E. Prater Way in Sparks on July 30 starting at 9 a.m. and continuing through the day with giveaways and drawings. Sparks Mayor Pro Tempore Charlene Bybee will join us for a ribbon cutting along with Councilmembers Dian VanderWell and Paul Anderson and Sparks City Attorney Wes Duncan. Members of the Washoe County Detention Services Unit will also be on hand. The Salvation Army has operated thrift stores in the Truckee Meadows for well over a century. They’ve always served to raise crucial monetary support for the Army’s programs that provide food, clothing and services to those in our community who are most in need. Today, all sales from our thrift stores go to support our Adult Rehabilitation program (ARP). The ARP is a place of hope and new beginnings dedicated to rebuilding the lives of men who are battling substance abuse, homelessness and other serious life challenges. It’s a 70-bed facility where men partake in a six-month program designed to help them overcome drug and alcohol dependency through structure, discipline and learning opportunities to maintain long-term sobriety.
