About this Event

Salon for the Soul
Salon for the Soul is a mental health and wellbeing talk for adults. It is based at the Haus of Haris Tyler hair salon in Halifax town centre.
The aim of the evening is to help people find a way to feel peaceful and content on the inside as well as the outside.
Often when we think about taking care of our wellbeing we think of exercising, nature and self care practices such as hair and skin care. Haris at the Haus of Haris Tyler says “Me and my team get people everyday sitting in our salon chairs saying they hate the way they look and feel, obviously we do our best to help them feel amazing with fabulous hairstyles - but in our experience that doesn’t always do the trick if someone is really low in mood.”
In 2023 Haris met Mary - a psycho spiritual dramatherapist who had just left her role in NHS mental health services to set up her own therapy service - Light of Mind. Together they birthed Salon for Soul in an attempt to bridge the gap between self care on the outside and soul care from the inside.
If you go into Haris' salon, you will find there is a box! Haris and his team regularly invite their clients to post any questions they might have about mental health into this box, these questions are then collected by Mary ahead of the event so that she can prepare to offer a psychological framework to help answer them.
This month's questions include:

  • can a person be born with mental health or do you believe it is triggered by something that takes place ?
  • how do I deal with and navigate anxiety? Can it be managed ?
  • why do people suffering not enjoy or want help/ company?
  • how do we deal with trauma ?
  • why do others make assumptions and judge others who acknowledge their own mental health issues ?
  • Stress and anxiety result in me having destructive behaviours, how do I escape that?
If you’re curious to hear Mary talk to these and other questions - come along and let Mary and Haris welcome you, along with a warm drink and a chocolate biscuit. You don’t need to speak if you don’t want to, or you can ask questions - it’s totally up to you!
Spaces are limited to 20 so please book early to avoid disappointment on the night!
