About this Event
This workshop will focus on Salish vocal music concentrating on Lil’wat and Stʼatʼimc music cultures. We will investigate the Salish music form and learn about the components that make up a Salish song. We will learn some songs and also look at collective vocal improvisation.
This workshop is in-person only and will not be recorded.
ABOUT THE KNOWLEDGE KEEPER:
Russell Wallace is an award winning composer, producer and traditional singer from theSt'at'imc Nation (Salish) in Canada. His music has been part of a number of film and television soundtracks and theatre/dance productions (most notable being “1491” tv mini series in which he won the Leo award for best soundtrack and the feature film “Monkey Beach”). Currently, Wallace is the Director of the Indigenous Vocal Ensemble at Vancouver Community College and works with the Vancouver Youth Choir’s Kindred Program alongside Deanna Gestrin.
