Salisbury Bat Night

Look for bats flying as the sun sets, and hear bats’ calls through a bat detector.
Join us to learn about and look for bats in Salisbury. We’ll start with a short introductory talk about bats and then set off on a guided walk along the River Avon, all led by Charley Miller, our Conservation and Education Coordinator.
We are able to run these events thanks to seed funding awarded by Salisbury Transition City . Thank you if you voted for us at People in the Park! This is the first in our series of "Secret Wildlife of Salisbury" events, bringing our knowledge from the woods into the city. Click "Follow" on Eventbrite if you'd like to hear about future events - we're thinking of doing a Wildlife Discovery Picnic, Dawn Chorus Walk and Moth Morning with Breakfast over the next couple of months. Our aim is to empower Salisbury residents to explore and appreciate the abundance of wildlife that lives in and around our beautiful city. Including the "secret wildlife" that isn't always easy to spot!
Children are welcome to come with a responsible adult who must supervise them at all times.
Ticket prices - booking essential
General admission ticket - £10 per person (adult or child).
Donation ticket - pay what you can/want to (either less or more!).
Free ticket - if you can't afford to pay today.
Your money will support Hazel Hill Trust’s charitable work. The more we raise, the more we can grow this project for the benefit of Salisbury residents.
What to wear
Dress for the weather. We will be outside for the duration and the temperature may drop rapidly after the sun goes down. Please check the weather forecast and bring waterproofs, warm layers and insect repellent as appropriate – if you’re not sure then bring it all!
How to get here
We will meet and finish outside the Guildhall near Salisbury Market Place. We encourage you to arrive by walking, wheeling or public transport. There is bicycle parking all around the Market Place (don't forget your lock and lights!). There are bus stops nearby on Blue Boar Row, Endless Street, Castle Street and New Canal.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns, e.g. about the event finishing in the dark. We can chat and suggest solutions to help you attend, on a 1:1 basis. Phone call is probably easiest - call Charley on 07519 464023.
FAQs
Is this suitable for everyone?
The session is suitable for most people. It is helpful for us to know if you have any mobility or medical conditions or other additional needs so we can plan accordingly - please let us know in the booking form.
Is this only fun for kids?
Definitely not! Our wildlife activities are enjoyed by all ages.
Which way will we walk along the River Avon?
We'll decide nearer the time. We'll head north if the River Park footpaths are open. If not, we can head south towards the Water Meadows.
What if I'm late?
We'll start off with a few minutes introduction talk at the meeting point outside the Guildhall, which gives a few minutes for latecomers. You could aim to arrive at 8.45pm if you have a habit of being late.
