We invite you to our celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunday, January 18, 2026. We will begin at the Old City Jail on W. Alisal St. to pay our respects to the Non-violent and Social Justice actions of Dr. King & Mahatma Gandhi, which inspired Cesar Chavez & the United Farm Workers Movement. These efforts coincided uniquely in December 1970, when Chavez was incarcerated for leading the non-violent action of a lettuce boycott, prompting his incarceration in this jail. From the jail, we will re-enact to the public some key words and quotes from Mrs. Coretta Scott King who spoke here 55 years ago. We will then lead a candlelight march to Salinas City Hall for a bilingual interfaith remembrance and inspiration.
