About this Event
DONATIONS: Programs at Friends Wilderness Center are offered on a free-will donation basis, but participants are kindly requested to consider a $20/adult ($10/child) minimum donation to support our mission, facilities & care for the wilderness. Those who are able to contribute help ensure that access to the healing power of nature is available to all.
DESCRIPTION: The Americas are quite rich in salamanders, having more species than all the rest of the world combined. The Appalachian Region & Blue Ridge Mountains are considered the global hot spot for salamanders.
Come learn about the local species. We'll explore their ideal habitats, discuss global & local threats, explain how to ethically search for salamanders & avoid disturbing or harming them when you enjoy nature. We will also retrieve traps that have been deployed in salamander habitat & hopefully have some specimens to examine & identify.
