Krishna, a 12-year-old boy, is abandoned by his mother to work at a circus after he destroyed his brother's bike. After being told not to return until he earns 500 rupees, the cost of the bike, and then promptly being abandoned again by the circus, Krishna heads to Bombay. Living on the street Krishna encounters the harsh realities of street life, meeting and befriending sex workers, other street kids and drug dealers. Using real children living on the street as actors, this film captures a realistic and unflinching portrayal of poverty within Indian society in the 1980s.
