The theme of this competition, ''SAKURA COLLECTION 2022 Fashion Design Award in New York'', which is in its 10th year and 34th edition, is recycled wool from Bishu in Aichi Prefecture.

For more than half a century, Bishu has been producing reclaimed wool by spinning and reweaving surplus wool yarns and unneeded wool clothing. This technology is highly regarded and has attracted worldwide attention as a sustainable recycled wool. We invited design proposals using this Bishu recycled wool, and received 67 submissions from 11 countries. The 10 finalists selected through a screening process will actually create their designs, which will be presented at the event in New York, where the Grand Prix will be decided.
