Sake cup making & Sake Tasting

Create your own Ochoko and enjoy a curated tasting of artisanal sake crafted by two local artists.
About this Event

Create a pair of handmade ceramic ochoko, small sake cups, with ceramicist Kay
The technique of pinching - one of the oldest forms of making in ceramics - will be explored in this workshop. The hand of the maker is impressed into the clay leaving very personal artist marks in the pieces. In this way, you will create a unique set of two ochoko so you can enjoy the experience of sake with a loved one. Or makes a perfect gift for a sake-loving friend!

Sake tasting led by Ken
Enjoy a tasting of at least three sake selections, each curated to showcase the craftsmanship and artistry of sake production. Each bottle is chosen to highlight the diverse range of flavors that sake can offer. While we encourage all participants to approach the tasting with an open mind and palate, we aim to ensure there's a little something for everyone. 乾杯!
*Artsit Kay Kojima
She is a Japanese-American ceramicist, born and raised in NYC. She spent much of her career working for Interior Design magazine but always pursued creative projects on the side. In 2009, she took her first ceramics class, which sparked a passion that led her to become a full-time ceramic artist. Inspired by nature, her functional and sculptural works often feature organic forms, emphasizing the natural qualities of the materials she works with.
*Artist Kenneth Lyndon-Williams
With just under two years of experience in the Japanese sake and liquor industry at Kuraichi, a specialty liquor store that offers hundreds of varieties of sake and Japanese spirits, Ken has developed both a deep knowledge and a passionate appreciation for Japanese alcohol, particularly focusing on sake.

*No experience is required for this workshop. All materials and tools will be provided, and the fee includes both the firing and glazing of the pieces. Participants can pick up their fired work approximately 3-4 weeks after the workshop.

*Attendees must be 21 years old and older
*There are no refunds or reschedule of the event due to the limited number of spots in the workshop and the preparation involved
