Our annual paddle to the dam at Canyon Lake has been a ritual for us to celebrate "the shop is closed on Sundays for winter". So what do we do? We go paddle!!!! It also happens to fall on the Sunday before Another Dam Race and a perfect endurance paddle to prep for the big race! This year, we are moving the location to Saguaro Lake. Why? the past 3 years, the wind at Canyon has been atrotious! Regardless of the location, this is one of our favorite paddles all year! It's incredibly beautiful, the temps are still warm and the water is not too cold - yet. 😉
If you choose to join us, this is an advance level paddle. Bring your own gear and enough sustenance to get you through 16-miles of paddling (board, kayak, paddle, leash, PFD, water, electrolytes, healthy and hearty snacks)
We plan to meet at Butcher Jones Recreation Site at 830ish and then launch around 9:00 AM. We are typically back in 5.5 to 6.0 hours. It's approximately 2.5 hours up and 3.0 hours back, and we make a few break stops along the way. We paddle all the way to the buoys before heading to the party beach for the long break to eat lunch, recover, explore and goof-around before heading back.
If you are not up for the full distance, there is usually a small group or people that still want to paddle a shorter route up to Bagley Flat (4 miles from Butcher Jones). Please feel free to come out, meet some new friends and enjoy some time on the lake.
Don't forget the Tonto pass for your car.
