About this Event
In his prolific 50-year career as a Palm Springs-based architect, Donald Wexler designed just a handful of multi-housing projects. One of them is Sagewood, a prime example of midcentury modernism in service to desert living.
Built in 1972, it's an 18-acre complex with 108 low-slung, single-story condominium homes in 27 buildings surrounded by stately, parklike gardens and greenbelts. Long overlooked among Wexler's more celebrated projects such as the Palm Springs Airport and the innovative Steel Homes, Sagewood is gaining recognition for its "textbook perfect" site plan and how it provides both homelike privacy and a communal spirit focused on comfort and the outdoors.
Veteran journalist, writer and editor Claude Peck talks about the back story of Sagewood within the context of the explosion of condo development in Palm Springs in the 1960s and 1970s. (Lavishly illustrated!)
As usual, the Salon will take place outdoors at the Desert Star.
Please bring a bottle of your preferred beverage to share. (Drinks are not provided by S4P; the cost of the ticket covers insurance, event setup and ice.)
