About this Event
About SafeHaven
We are a community group for LGBTQIA+ Christians and all people looking to connect, be empowered and educated through progressive and queer-affirming Christianity.
-
In commemoration of IDAHOBIT 2024, SafeHaven presents the screening of two films that explore the intersection of faith and sexuality, and hopes to start conversations that help bridge understanding.
Each film is followed by a Q&A session.
As a community, we believe that our activities should be accessible to all and we have set aside some tickets as "Pay what you can" so that we live out what it means to be inclusive.

This documentary charts the struggles of LGBTQ+ Christians in Taiwan, and the challenges they face in confronting social discrimination and institutional prejudice. The Shepherds captures both the bravery and desperation of this religious community, focusing on their role in advocating for marriage equality in Taiwan.
1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture 6.30pm 18 May 2024
This feature documentary follows the story of tireless researchers who trace the origins of the anti-gay movement among Christians to a grave mistranslation of the Bible in 1946.
It chronicles the discovery of never-before-seen archives at Yale University which unveil astonishing new revelations, and casts significant doubt on any biblical basis for LGBTQIA+ prejudice. Featuring commentary from prominent scholars as well as opposing pastors, including the personal stories of the film’s creators, 1946 is at once challenging, enlightening, and inspiring.
Q&A session with Director Sharon "Rocky" Roggio.
