Safeguarding Children: Essential Safeguarding Awareness
*Universal = Everyone working or volunteering with children (this course is only available to registered childcare providers operating in Leicestershire)

*This course is suitable for childminders and prospective childminders who have not previously undertaken any Safeguarding CPD training, however following first time attendance on this course Childminders should then attend 'Safeguarding Children: Childminder Designated Safeguarding Lead' as this course covers the role of Childminders as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
Newly registered Childminders following certification of essential awareness should contact [email protected] for a £10 discount code to book onto the Designated Safeguarding Lead training', the DSL training should be completed within 3 months of completing childminder registration.
This course is being offered at the highly subsidised rate of £35.00.
Leicestershire County Council’s Early Years Inclusion and Childcare Service recommends for best practice that all Leicestershire Early Years Providers and Practitioners including Childminders and Out of School Clubs follow and adhere to The Safeguarding Children Competency Framework
The session includes:
Section 1
- What is the competency framework and why do we need it?
- Who are the LSCPB and what do they do?
- What is Safeguarding?
- What are the Principles of Safeguarding and the legislation that underpins it.
Section 2
- Know the different forms of abuse and neglect
- Knowledge about child development norms
- Be aware of some of the signs and indicators that concern
- Be aware of contextual safeguarding and what this means for your role.
Section 3
- Awareness of County Lines and the impact this has on children and young people.
- Understand the issues around e-safety and protecting children and young people.
- Know what makes children and young people more vulnerable to abuse and neglect.
Section 4
- Understand statutory requirements governing consent, confidentiality and information sharing
- Understand recording and reporting procedures within your work
- Understand how our own experiences, values and beliefs influence our thinking
Section 5 - Workbook
- Understand the thresholds of intervention
- Be able to assess risk in relation to immediate safety issues for children
- Understand the barriers to sharing concerns
- Know the referral pathways in Leicestershire.
