Trinity Health has been offering the Safe Sitter® course since 1995. Since that time, thousands of students have been given the confidence they need to handle crises and keep their charges secure, as well as how to nurture and guide a young child.
Safe Sitter® was created to teach children 11 and older how to be better, safer babysitters. Safe Sitter® babysitters help children stay safe and sound while their parents are away. In the process, the students emerge as more confident, responsible, and compassionate teens and adults. For more than 35 years, Safe Sitter® has been a leader in providing life skills, safety skills, and child care training for youth. A national nonprofit organization, Safe Sitter® helps to build safer communities by providing youth with the skills they need to be safe while home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.
Safe Sitter® provides medically-accurate course content and follows guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association.
The course fee is $60, which covers materials and food. To register for a class, please call 857-5643.
During this one-day course, students learn an array of topics that include:
Safety Skills:
Indoor safety, outdoor safety, online safety and personal safety.
Child Care Skills:
Child development, child care routines (including diapering practice) and behavior management.
First Aid & Rescue Skills:
Injury prevention, injury management, choking rescue and hands-only CPR.
