Legacy military ordnance litters coastal waters, threatening pipelines & cables - expert speakers explore new technologies to mitigate risks
About this Event

Our coastal waters are littered with legacy ordnance from military conflicts, posing threats to underwater pipelines and cables, particularly those associated with near shore developments in offshore wind, carbon storage and oil and gas. This session will feature speakers presenting on latest approaches and technologies to mitigate their impacts.

Ed Walker, Environmental Specialist, Xodus Group

UXO Risk Management & Consenting in the context of Subsea Transmission

Ed is a Marine Energy specialist with >10 years of experience in the assessment, consenting, development and construction of marine-based infrastructure projects, specifically within the energy sector. A Chartered Environmentalist, Chartered Marine Technologist and Chartered Water & Environment Manager, Ed has a range of consenting experience, including several Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects. Ed’s experience encompasses subsea cables, offshore wind (including FOW), CCUS, nuclear new build and a range of other coastal energy technologies where UXO risk management has been required. For the last ~6 years, Ed has been embedded within two major HVDC subsea cable projects for National Grid Electricity Transmission – this has involved navigating the potential risks posed by UXO, and ultimately movement toward ALARP

Lee Wasling, Business & Projects Development Manager, EODEX

Advances in UXO Survey and Identification

Lee Wasling is Business & Projects Development Manager at EODEX and a Member of the Institute of Explosive Engineers. Following a Royal Navy career in explosive ordnance disposal, he transitioned to the offshore sector, specialising in UXO risk management and seabed clearance. With over 26 years of experience across commercial and defence projects, he combines operational expertise with a strong track record in business development.
