At the SADDS October General Membership Meeting, we are honored to welcome the President of the Texas Dental Association, Dr. Georgianne McCandless along with the Director of Public Affairs, Jess Calvert. These distinguished guests will lead an insightful discussion on the current events and legislative matters that are shaping the future of dentistry, both at the state and national levels. Their expertise and firsthand knowledge of the evolving landscape will provide invaluable perspectives for our members.
In addition to their presentations, the meeting will feature an open Q&A session, allowing our members to engage directly with these influential leaders. This is a unique opportunity to gain clarity on key issues affecting the dental profession and to discuss how we can navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead. Dr. Georgianne McCandless, TDA President:
Dr. McCandless grew up an Army brat, has lived all over the place. She moved to Texas in 1983 and considers the state her home. She attended college at The University of Texas at El Paso. She moved to Houston to begin dental school and graduated in 1997. She received her certificate in Pediatric Dentistry in 1999 from Houston’s dental school.
Dr. McCandless is board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She has a full-time private practice in Tomball, Texas.
Dr. McCandless has been involved in local, state, and national dental organizations. She has held multiple leadership roles at the Texas Dental Association, the Greater Houston Dental Association, the Houston Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the College of Diplomates in Pediatric Dentistry.
Jess Calvert is TDA’s director of public affairs. He serves as TDA’s in-house lobbyist and oversees the day-to-day operations of the TDA Department of Legislative, Regulatory, and Governmental Affairs, including policy, DENPAC, and the contract legislative consultants.
He began his career as an analyst at the Legislative Budget Board (LBB), where he was assigned to general government and natural resource agencies. After leaving the LBB, he served on the staff of the Texas House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations as an analyst assigned to education, criminal justice, and the judiciary. Prior to coming to work at the TDA, Jess was employed at General Motors Acceptance Corporation, where he managed several residential finance programs.
A native of Austin, Jess earned a BA degree from Texas Tech University and a master of public administration from Texas State University.
