Rush Baker IV, Cultural Curator
Rush Baker IV, a native of Washington, D.C., specializing in painting and printmaking, is an artist and arts educator who believes creative thinking is crucial for finding solutions to the important issues of today and tomorrow.
In his art, Rush embraces uncertainty in his painting practice, exploring the tension between destruction and reconstruction through abstraction. His work challenges preconceived ideas and has been featured nationally and internationally—including solo exhibitions at Future Gallery (Berlin, Germany), Scaramouche Gallery (New York City), and HEMPHILL Artworks (Washington, D.C.).
Currently, Rush is an Assistant Professor at School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Rush has taught at the University of Maryland, College Park, Corcoran School of Art, Yale University and lectured at American University, The Cooper Union, The Hamiltonian, The Harvey B. Gantt Center, and Gateway Arts Center in Brentwood, MD. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Cooper Union and a Master of Fine Arts (Painting/Printmaking) from Yale University.
