A sacred place is a place where one belongs, a place where one feels safe and warm and at ease, a place that has such inexplicable beauty to give, a place that is "home". For artists, their sacred place is often in the middle of a beautiful work of art, something transformative. Our program will immerse you, the audience, in our sacred places, and allow you to bathe in the beauty of the soundwaves around you. Each piece has been chosen for its connection to our theme.
Alex Berko’s “Sacred Places” forms the centrepiece for this concert. Enveloped by the timbral blanket of piano, violin and cello, the voices in this multi-movement work sing texts by Wendell Berry, John Muir, William Stafford, Rabindranath Tagore, and the Old Testament.
