Evergreen Ensemble presents our season finale concert program titled "Sacred Place".This program is built around the question, “What do we hold as sacred?” and is divided into three sets that represent finding a sacred place in the divine, in nature, and in community and place. Obviously it is an impossible task to try to encapsulate all things sacred into one concert, so instead Artistic Director David Hendrix selected works that speak to his own personal and musical experiences, traditions, and transformations.
The divine is represented in what many might consider conventional sacred choral music, and includes timeless staples of Western choral repertoire as well as nods to the rich traditional of hymnody in the Protestant church. Nature is represented in the second set by the titular work of the concert, Sacred Place, by American composer Alex Berko. This piece was recently nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Choral Performance, and our performance will be a West Coast premiere of the work! And finally, community and place are represented in the third set with compositions that specifically utilize texts speaking to relationships and and our connectedness in this life.
