During this special Live at the Archive event, explore the rich history and heritage of classical Arabic letterforms with master calligrapher Khalid Pablo Casado. Learn about the relationship between masters and students, and discover the significance of the silisa (lineage) of calligraphers.
We will walk through the traditional tools and materials, preparation methods, and glean the spiritual significance this ancient art form holds. Respecting a visual balance and harmony using calculated strokes of the pen, Casado will demonstrate the practices following a precise and codified method, which has been preserved since the 15th century of the Ottoman empire
Khalid Pablo Casado has since 2014 devoted himself completely to learning the art of Arabic Calligraphy. He received his icazet or calligraphy diploma in the sülüs and nesih styles from the Research Center for Islamic History Art and Culture, signed by the masters Hassan Çelebi, Ferhat Kurlu and Nuria García. Currently, he travels regularly from Madrid, where he lives, to Istanbul for long of study in order to stay connected with his masters and with the purpose of continuing learning and refining his work.
