Sacred Cut and Paste | Visio Divina
Join us for a unique experience at the Scarritt Bennett Center where we will explore the ancient practice of Visio Divina through cut and paste art. This in-person event will allow you to engage with sacred images in a hands-on way, deepening your spiritual connection and creativity. Don't miss this opportunity to tap into your inner artist and reflect on the divine in a new light. All materials will be provided, just bring an open heart and mind!
This 3-hour sacred cut and past workshop will introduce a creative variation of the ancient spiritual practice known as Lectio Divina (“Divine Reading”). Participants will encounter God’s word to them as they use eyes, hands, mind and heart to create their visual reflection on a sacred text. The four traditional steps of Lectio Divina will be practiced as follows.
1. Lectio (reading) -- Listening for a word, phrase, or image that speaks to the heart. (No change from traditional first step.)
2. Meditatio (meditation) -- Meditating on the word, phrase, or image through selection and placement of print and other materials on a backing surface (most often resembling collage, but not limited to that art form).
3. Oratio (prayer) -- Speaking and listening for God’s word through sharing around the experience of Meditatio and the pieces that were created.
4. Contemplatio (contemplation) -- Letting the entire experience soak in while resting in God’s presence.
