Forget everything you know about Oktoberfest (you know, something-beer-something-something-centuries-old royal marriage). This is Sacch-toberfest, and we’re settling the score you never knew existed: Australia vs. Germany.Running from Friday, September 19th, to Sunday, September 21st, we're turning our taps into a battleground of classic beer styles. On one side, the undisputed heavyweights of German brewing, whose dedication to the 1516 Reinheitsgebot (Purity Law) ensures their beers are brewed with nothing but water, barley, hops, and yeast. Their tradition and purity have reigned supreme for over 500 years. On the other side, the new-world ingenuity of Australia’s finest independent brewers, proving that you don't need five centuries of history to make a world-class beer.
You be the judge! We've meticulously selected six pairs of brews, with each Aussie beer going head-to-head with its German inspiration:
Pilsner: Weihenstephaner vs. Madocke
Festbier: Weihenstephaner vs. Seven Mile
Kolsch: Fruh vs. King River
Smoked Lager: Schlenkerla vs. Hodfellows
Hefeweissbier: Schneider Weisse vs. Holgate
Dunkel: Weltenburger vs. Holgate
And what’s a beer battle without a hearty snack? We'll be serving our Kransky Hund special: a juicy kransky on a fresh roll with tangy sauerkraut, mustard, and tomato sauce. It's the ultimate fuel for your beer-judging duties.
Grab a special tasting paddle to try them head-to-head, then cast your vote for your favourite in each category. Every vote enters you into the draw to win some sweet glassware!
But wait, there's more! The legendary colouring-in competition is back. Get your crayons out and let your inner artist shine—the best submission will win a glass Weihenstephaner boot, perfect for the ultimate shoe-ies (because Germany and Aus aren’t that different, after all).
Join us for a weekend of delicious beer, friendly competition, and all the festive spirit you can handle.
