The Saami family, custodians of the Delhi Qawwal Bacha Gharana founded by Sufi poet Amir Khusrau in the 14th century, preserves the pure tradition of Khayal, a vocal style combining Persian, Turkish, Arabic and South Asian elements. They masterfully produce a unique 49-note microtonal scale with minimal words. This evening will feature Ustads Rauf and Urooj, Ahmed Saami on harmonium, and their father, the revered Ustad Naseeruddin Saami, as a special guest, accompanied by sarangi and tabla, showcasing the authentic soundscapes of Khayal for an immersive audience experience.Promotional support provided by the Center for Cultural Vibrancy.
