Our much-loved book club, Strange Editions is back this September for another night as we see out the last of the cosy winter months and head into Djilba, spring.

This session will see Geraldton raised WA writer Karen Herbert come down to Strange Company to chat with us and the lovely panelist and Author Emily Paull to discuss her brand new medical thriller, ‘The Ghost Walk’ which is making waves and chilling spines all over the country.

Once everyone is settled and comfortable with a wine (or something equally delicious) in hand, we will have a bit of a live reading to gain some deeper insight into the characters. Following the reading we will host an interview and a little Q&A about the book so save your queries!

The novel will be available at the event through New Edition and some copies of it will also be for sale over the bar in the lead-up to the session. Our friendly staff will be more than happy to have a chat with you about the text and give you any further info about the upcoming evening.

We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday the 30th of September to meet the Author and get the inside scoop on how the characters in this novel came about.

A special thanks must go to everyone at Fremantle Press and to the crew at New Edition who have been instrumental in putting this series together!

About the book:

From the author of The River Mouth and Vertigo, comes a must-read medical thriller.
Did anyone know Dr Gabriel Beaufort better than Ruby Rose Gillespie? They were friends at high school. They are secret lovers now. And because he is also the lung-transplant surgeon who saved her life, Ruby will forever be in his debt.
But then the body of Dr Beaufort is found in the wetlands next to the hospital, on the same day as Ruby, a person who lives with cystic fibrosis, is readmitted with a sudden fever.
As the crime scene investigation begins beneath her hospital window, Ruby starts to gather her own clues about her lover’s last movements. But with each new discovery, she is haunted by the question of whether she really knew Gabriel Beaufort at all.

PRAISE FOR THE BOOK

‘In a literary world not short on crime novels, Karen Herbert’s The Ghost Walk is a standout. Her clear voice and confident prose animate the characters without sensationalising them. Her meticulous approach to the reality of life with a disability does not overtake the mystery at the heart of this story, it is beautifully woven in. Herbert is a masterful storyteller.’ Amal Awad, author of Bitter & Sweet

‘A brooding, breathless thriller, brimming with dark secrets. So many twists your head will spin.’ Gillian O’Shaughnessy
‘A classic page-turning crime story … gives you the ultimate armchair detective experience.’ Chris Gordon, Readings bookseller
