During the workshop, students will learn a brief history of the sampler, and how to embroider three stitches, and they will begin work on a miniature sampler (4x6 inches) suitable for framing. The alphabet and other motifs of the design were adapted from a sampler by Mahala Weise, which is in the Cedar Falls Historical Society's collection. Her sampler was stitched in 1838.Cost for the 3-hour workshop is $15 and it includes a kit with instructions, charted design, stitch diagrams, and a bonus design, along with fabric, floss, and a tapestry needle. Participants may choose up to 2 initials to incorporate into their sampler (where the "S" is on the sampler in the photo). Participants must be 12 years and older, and beginners are welcome. Registration is required.
