“Luminous”, “explosive”, “generous”, “brilliant: the vibrant and multi-talented American mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, whose voice was hailed by the New York Times as “nothing less than 24-carat gold”, is one of the most sought-after talents of the international music scene. Winner of numerous awards, including a Grammy and a prestigious Laurence Olivier Award in 2018, she performs around the world in concerts, recitals and in operas, her dazzling voice illuminating a tremendous breadth of repertoire ranging from Baroque to bel canto, right up to contemporary music.
Steeped in the intimacy of Schubert lieder one moment, and grand opera arias the next, her recitals are a true celebration of the richness and virtuosity of her voice. Accompanied by pianist Craig Terry, the charismatic mezzo-soprano finally returns to the Grand Théâtre de Genève with a fascinating programme spanning several eras, beginning with Haydn and finishing with the music of contemporary composer Jake Heggie – in whose opera Dead Man Walking she played a deeply moving Sister Helen in 2023 at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, not forgetting the songs of Alma Mahler and of Claude Debussy, whose Pelléas and Mélisande will be presented a few weeks later.
